Bengaluru: A domestic dispute has allegedly led to the killing of seven members of a family, with Bengaluru cab driver Indushekhar arrested on charges of murdering his wife and six of her relatives before dumping their bodies at different locations near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district.
The victims have been identified as his wife Sunitha, mother-in-law Rupavathi, brothers-in-law Shivakumar and Shankar, sisters-in-law Divya and Nalini, and seven-year-old Puneeth. Police suspect that the accused attacked the family members with a grinding stone and later used a car to transport and dispose of their bodies at separate locations.
Rajajinagar police arrested Indushekhar following an investigation into a missing-person complaint. The case came to light after a family member approached Srirampura police station and reported that relatives were missing.
The accused allegedly gave contradictory answers during questioning, prompting investigators to examine his involvement more closely. During interrogation, he reportedly disclosed details of the alleged killings and the locations where the bodies had been disposed of.
The recovery of seven-year-old Puneeth’s body on Thursday marked a significant development in the investigation. Police teams are continuing their search for the remaining victims, while forensic experts examine evidence collected from the suspected crime scene and other locations.
Missing-person complaint led police to the accused
The investigation reportedly began when a relative of the victims approached Srirampura police station and lodged a missing-person complaint. The disappearance of several members of the same family raised concerns and prompted the police to question people who could provide information about their whereabouts.
Indushekhar came under suspicion during the inquiry. According to the information provided by investigators, his responses to questions about the missing family members were contradictory.
Police subsequently questioned him further. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to killing the seven family members and provided details about how he had disposed of their bodies.
Investigators then began searching locations identified during the questioning. The case involved coordination between police teams as they attempted to locate the victims and collect evidence that could establish the sequence of events.
The investigation is also examining whether anyone else was involved in the alleged crime. The accused’s statements will have to be corroborated through forensic findings, physical evidence and other investigative material.
Seven family members allegedly attacked
Police suspect that the accused used a grinding stone to attack the victims. The alleged incident is believed to have involved seven members of his wife’s family, including a seven-year-old child.
The victims have been identified as:
- Sunitha, the accused’s wife
- Rupavathi, his mother-in-law
- Shivakumar, his brother-in-law
- Shankar, his brother-in-law
- Divya, his sister-in-law
- Nalini, his sister-in-law
- Puneeth, a seven-year-old child
The suspected use of a grinding stone has become an important part of the investigation. Police believe the object may have been used to carry out the attacks.
Investigators are examining the circumstances in which the alleged killings took place, including the possible sequence of attacks and the relationship between the accused and the victims before the incident.
The precise motive has not yet been conclusively established. Although a domestic dispute is suspected to have triggered the violence, police are continuing their investigation to determine what led to the alleged murders.
Bodies allegedly dumped at different locations near Nandi Hills
After the suspected killings, Indushekhar allegedly used a car to transport the bodies and dispose of them at different locations in the Nandi Hills region of Chikkaballapur district.
Police suspect that separating the disposal locations was an attempt to conceal the crime and make it difficult for investigators to locate the victims.
The accused’s alleged disclosures helped police identify places where searches could be conducted. Teams were subsequently deployed to examine the locations and recover the bodies.
The body of seven-year-old Puneeth was recovered on Thursday following a search operation that lasted approximately four hours.
The recovery was a crucial development because it provided investigators with physical evidence to advance the case. However, the search for the other six victims is continuing.
Police are examining the locations identified during the investigation and are expected to rely on forensic analysis to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Car and grinding stone seized as evidence
Investigators have seized the car allegedly used by Indushekhar to transport the bodies. The vehicle is expected to undergo forensic examination to identify possible traces of blood or other material connected to the suspected crime.
A grinding stone believed to have been used in the attacks has also emerged as an important piece of evidence.
Police suspect that the accused attempted to remove traces of the alleged crime by washing the object and cleaning bloodstains. Investigators will examine whether forensic testing can identify biological material or other evidence linking the object to the victims.
The examination of the vehicle, grinding stone and locations where the bodies were allegedly dumped will be important in reconstructing the sequence of events.
Forensic evidence may also help investigators verify the accused’s statements and determine whether the alleged attacks took place in the manner described during interrogation.
Domestic dispute suspected as motive
Police suspect that a domestic dispute may have been behind the alleged killings. However, the exact reason for the violence and the events that preceded the incident remain under investigation.
Investigators are expected to examine the relationship between Indushekhar and his wife, as well as any disputes involving other members of the family.
The police will also need to establish the timeline of the alleged crime, including when the victims were last seen, how they were attacked and how the bodies were transported to the suspected disposal locations.
The accused’s statements alone will not be sufficient to establish the case. Investigators must support the allegations with independent evidence, forensic reports and other material collected during the inquiry.
The police investigation is continuing, with search operations focused on locating the remaining victims.
Search operation continues as investigation intensifies
The alleged killing of seven members of one family has caused shock, particularly because a young child is among the victims. The recovery of Puneeth’s body has intensified attention on the ongoing search for the other family members.
Police teams are continuing to examine the locations identified during the investigation. The seized vehicle and suspected weapon are also expected to undergo detailed forensic analysis.
The case highlights the importance of the missing-person complaint in bringing the alleged crime to light. What initially appeared to be the disappearance of family members developed into a major criminal investigation after the accused’s statements reportedly led police to the suspected disposal sites.
For now, the priority for investigators is to recover the remaining bodies, establish the exact sequence of events and determine the motive behind the alleged killings.
Indushekhar has been arrested, but the allegations will have to be established through the legal process. Further details are expected to emerge as the police complete the searches and forensic examination.
