Bengaluru: A five-year social experiment by Bengaluru-based BharatAgri founder and CEO Siddharth Dialani has sparked a discussion online about trust, honesty and everyday life in the city.

Dialani said he and his wife have been leaving their helmets unlocked whenever they park their two-wheeler, using the simple practice to observe whether Bengaluru could be considered a high-trust city.

Couple leaves helmets unlocked

Sharing details of the experiment on X, Dialani said the couple leaves their helmets on the vehicle’s side mirror or seat instead of locking them whenever they park.

According to him, the experiment has continued for five years and neither of their helmets has been stolen during that period.

Dialani described it as a low-cost way of testing the level of trust in Bengaluru’s public spaces.

Experiment sparks debate online

The post prompted several people to share their own experiences of living in Bengaluru.

Some users agreed with Dialani’s observation and described the city as a place where strangers often show kindness and respect towards others.

One user suggested that relatively similar lifestyles and income levels could be among the reasons people may be less inclined to steal.

Dialani, however, disagreed with the explanation, pointing out that Bengaluru has significant income disparity. He suggested that personal dignity could instead play a role in why people choose not to steal.

Not everyone agrees

Several users said they had experienced helmet thefts in Bengaluru, while others questioned whether helmets were valuable enough to attract thieves in the first place.

One commenter suggested that a similar experiment could produce the same result in many cities because a helmet may not always be considered worth stealing.

While Dialani’s experience is limited to his own five-year experiment, the post has nevertheless opened a wider conversation about trust and everyday interactions in Bengaluru. #Bengaluru #SiddharthDialani #BharatAgri #SocialExperiment #Trust #BengaluruNews #Karnataka #NewsKarnataka
