Bengaluru: Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G has directed officials to make comprehensive arrangements at Halasuru Lake to ensure the safe and smooth immersion of Ganesh idols during the upcoming festival.
The instructions focus on ensuring public safety, regulating crowds and traffic, and protecting the lake from pollution during the immersion process.
Barricades and traffic management
Officials have been instructed to install adequate barricades at the immersion site so that devotees can complete the ritual safely without causing inconvenience to the public.
The civic body has also been directed to coordinate closely with the police department to maintain law and order during the festival.
Measures will be taken to prevent overcrowding, regulate vehicular movement and minimise traffic congestion around the lake, particularly during peak immersion hours.
Steps to protect lake environment
As part of the preparations, officials have also been asked to develop a wetland at Halasuru Lake.
The proposed wetland is intended to improve the quality of the lake water and provide a suitable environment for aquatic life. The move is expected to support the long-term ecological health of the waterbody.
The stormwater drain leading to the lake will also be cleared of debris and cleaned as part of the preparations.
Officials have further been instructed to install mesh screens at rainwater entry points. The screens will help prevent garbage, plastic and other waste from being carried into the lake through the stormwater network.
Development works to be completed
The Commissioner has directed officials to complete ongoing development works at the lake within the stipulated timeframe.
These works include the walkers’ pathway, installation of grills and other related infrastructure.
The civic body has instructed officials to ensure that the facilities are completed and made available to the public without delay.
The preparations combine arrangements for the safe conduct of Ganesh idol immersion with measures aimed at protecting Halasuru Lake from waste and improving its overall condition.
