Bengaluru’s worsening traffic congestion has once again triggered frustration among commuters, especially in the busy Bellandur and Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor, where several technology professionals say travelling just five kilometres can take up to three hours.
The issue gained attention after a viral post on X described Bellandur as the “epicentre” of Bengaluru’s traffic crisis, highlighting how even people living close to their offices are struggling with long commute times.
“Living near office no longer helps”
According to online discussions, many employees working in Bengaluru’s IT corridor are paying premium rents to stay near workplaces but are still spending hours stuck in traffic daily.
Commuters blamed overcrowded roads, infrastructure bottlenecks, ongoing construction work, and increasing vehicle numbers for the worsening situation.
Several users also pointed out that short-distance travel within Bellandur and surrounding ORR stretches has become unpredictable during peak office hours.
Bellandur remains one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors
Bellandur, along with nearby areas such as Marathahalli, Whitefield, and Sarjapur Road, houses some of Bengaluru’s largest IT parks and multinational offices.
The corridor witnesses massive daily traffic movement from office workers, cabs, buses, and private vehicles, often resulting in severe congestion.
Residents say the city’s infrastructure growth has failed to keep pace with Bengaluru’s rapid commercial and population expansion.
Social media users express frustration
The viral post sparked widespread reactions online, with many users calling Bengaluru’s traffic situation mentally exhausting and unsustainable.
Some users said long commutes were affecting work-life balance, health, and productivity, while others renewed demands for work-from-home flexibility and hybrid office models.
Urban planners and residents have repeatedly urged authorities to improve public transport connectivity, accelerate metro expansion, and decentralise office hubs to reduce traffic pressure on the ORR stretch.
Despite several infrastructure projects currently underway, Bengaluru continues to remain among India’s most traffic-congested cities
