A Bengaluru resident’s furious rant about the city’s collapsing transport system has gone viral, igniting widespread debate over urban infrastructure, political accountability, and the dominance of ride-hailing apps like Uber and Ola.
Shared on X (formerly Twitter), the post read, “Bangalore is an absolute mess. I’ve been trying to book a cab or auto for 30 minutes. Now the unions want to ban Uber and Ola too. First, bike taxis were banned, and now this? No infrastructure, no reliable public transport, constant language hurdles—it’s a farce. Honestly, offices should shut down so we can all move to a functioning city.”
The outburst resonated with many, surfacing amid escalating clashes between driver unions and app-based platforms. Unions have pushed for tighter regulations and opposed bike taxis, leaving commuters stranded, especially during rush hours or in remote areas.
Online reactions were sharply divided. Some locals defended the city: “Leave bro, no one’s forcing you. We have decent public transport and the metro.” Others agreed with the frustration: “Booked a cab. Got enlightenment instead.”
Criticism quickly shifted to civic mismanagement. Users highlighted that BBMP elections haven’t been held in six years, resulting in no local representation. One commented, “Karnataka’s funds are drained on vote-bank politics, not infrastructure.”
Despite the outrage, some expressed cautious optimism, hoping improvements would come as companies and workers demand better conditions.
