A Bengaluru couple has gone viral after sharing the detailed expenses behind their lavish destination wedding in Uttarakhand’s Jim Corbett National Park, sparking fresh conversations online about the soaring costs of modern Indian weddings.

In a joint Instagram post, Apoorva Dixit and Manu Shukla revealed that hosting a destination wedding at a luxury resort in India can easily cost between ₹50 lakh and ₹80 lakh.

The couple celebrated their wedding at Tiaraa Resort near Jim Corbett National Park and said they always wanted a destination wedding because it allowed them to spend meaningful time with loved ones while creating lifelong memories.

Wedding expenses crossed several lakhs

Breaking down the costs, the couple revealed that photography and videography alone ranged between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹3 lakh.

Apoorva, an IIT Kanpur alumna currently working at Qualcomm, said her wedding outfits cost around ₹2 lakh in total. Meanwhile, the groom managed to reduce expenses by sourcing fabrics independently and getting six outfits stitched within ₹80,000.

The couple also spent around ₹5 lakh on accessories, props, travel, gifts and other miscellaneous arrangements.

As part of traditional family customs, the wedding additionally involved gold jewellery worth nearly ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh.

Couple shares financial advice online

The video gained significant attention online after the couple explained how they planned their finances responsibly.

“Money wise, we had only one rule — the wedding budget should stay within twice our annual income,” Apoorva said.

The couple also clarified that there is no fixed or correct way to celebrate a wedding and encouraged people to plan according to their comfort and financial capacity.

Social media users reacted strongly to the video, with many debating whether destination weddings in India are becoming excessively expensive for middle-class families.
