A Bengaluru-based couple has sparked conversations online after sharing a detailed breakdown of their family’s monthly expenses, revealing a total expenditure of ₹1.66 lakh in May.

The couple, who run the Instagram page the12absproject, outlined their spending across categories including housing, fitness, childcare, groceries and lifestyle expenses.

Rent remains biggest expense

According to the couple, rent and utilities accounted for the largest share of their monthly budget at ₹68,000.

Housing alone represented more than 40 per cent of their overall expenditure, reflecting the rising cost of living in Bengaluru, particularly in neighbourhoods popular among working professionals and families.

Fitness takes second spot

One of the most talked-about aspects of the budget was the family’s spending on health and fitness.

The couple revealed that they spent ₹31,000 on gym memberships, personal training sessions, supplements, sports activities and fitness gear during the month.

They described fitness as a priority and an investment in their long-term health and well-being.

Childcare and household support

The family also spent ₹29,000 on household assistance, including salaries for a nanny, cook and cleaning helper.

Expenses related to their toddler and pet dog totalled ₹8,000, covering essentials such as diapers, toys, clothing and pet food.

Meanwhile, grocery expenses for the family came to ₹18,000 during May.

The remaining ₹12,000 was spent on dining out, entertainment, shopping, OTT subscriptions and transportation.

After sharing the figures, the couple revealed that their total monthly expenditure stood at ₹1.66 lakh.
