In a major enforcement drive, Bengaluru Police have identified and deported 272 Bangladeshi immigrants, including 178 men and 94 women, in a coordinated operation aimed at dismantling illegal migration networks operating in the city.

Large-scale deportation operation carried out

According to police, the individuals were transported under tight security to the Tripura border, from where they crossed into Bangladesh with the cooperation of security forces.

Officials confirmed that the operation was part of an intensified crackdown on illegal immigration in the city, with authorities continuing to track networks facilitating such movements.

Three-tier network exposed by investigators

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested two agents linked to a well-organised illegal immigration racket. Investigations have revealed a structured three-tier system used to bring Bangladeshi nationals into India.

The first agent facilitated movement up to the border, while a second agent ensured illegal entry into Indian territory. Once inside, migrants were trained in basic local language skills and provided with forged identity documents.

Police stated that the individuals were later placed in jobs across sectors such as hotels, automobile garages, and construction sites in Bengaluru.

Intelligence flags spike ahead of election

Intelligence agencies have also warned of a surge in illegal immigration into poll-bound states like Assam and West Bengal. Officials believe there is a concerted push to move large numbers of infiltrators into these regions ahead of elections.

Recent arrests by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, where 14 Bangladeshi nationals were detained on a train bound for New Delhi, have further raised concerns.

Authorities noted that many of the individuals entered through the Assam border using fake documentation, prompting questions about how such breaches are occurring despite heightened border security.

National security concerns raised

During a recent rally in Assam, Narendra Modi emphasised that illegal immigration is a serious issue linked to national security and regional identity. He highlighted its impact on livelihoods, land ownership, and the safety of vulnerable communities.

Officials have stated that further investigations are underway to identify the full extent of the network and those aiding such operations
