Bengaluru‘s ongoing battle with torrential rains and waterlogged streets took a symbolic turn when a photo of a flooded car interior went viral. Entrepreneur Arun Vinayak posted an image of ankle-deep water pooling inside his vehicle on his way to work. With a sarcastic tone, he wrote: “Developing hardware in India becomes even tougher when your cars, homes, and offices need waterproof ratings like IP67.”
The internet responded with humour, reflecting the collective exasperation of citizens. One user joked, “Switch to boats near Bengaluru Harbour,” while another quipped, “Toss in some fish—it’s a spa day for your legs.” Someone else remarked, “Every home needs its own submarine.”
The city was battered by over 100 mm of rain in 24 hours, causing massive traffic snarls and knee-deep flooding in low-lying zones. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, warning of more downpours across Bengaluru and surrounding regions.
Authorities claim action is underway. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, monitoring the crisis from the BBMP war room, said 166 of 210 flood-vulnerable locations have seen improvements, with work ongoing in others. Additionally, 197 km of stormwater drains have been installed and ₹2,000 crore allocated for further upgrades.
Despite this, the reality on ground remains harsh—residents wade through waterlogged roads, public transport is disrupted, and properties are damaged, making daily life increasingly difficult.
