A tragic incident was reported from Mandya district, where a young software engineer from Bengaluru lost his life after drowning in the River Cauvery near Yedamuri in Srirangapatna taluk on Wednesday afternoon
The deceased has been identified as P Vignesh (27), an employee of Infosys and a resident of Ramamurthynagar in Bengaluru. He was the son of Pandian.
Picnic turns tragic
According to police sources, Vignesh had travelled to Yedamuri falls along with three friends for a picnic. During the outing, he entered the river for a swim. Tragically, he was swept away and drowned in the strong currents.
The sudden incident left his friends in shock, who immediately alerted authorities.
Swift response by rescue teams
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, along with local police, rushed to the scene and initiated a search operation. After efforts by the rescue teams, Vignesh’s body was retrieved from the river.
The operation drew attention to the hidden dangers of seemingly calm river stretches, especially during outings.
Case registered
The Karnataka Police have registered a case at the KRS police station and initiated further investigation into the incident.
Authorities have once again urged the public to exercise caution while entering rivers and water bodies, particularly in unfamiliar locations.
