A team of engineers from Bengaluru’s civic agencies recently visited Hyderabad to study the city’s flyovers, elevated corridors and junction improvement projects as Karnataka moves ahead with a major road infrastructure push for Bengaluru.

Officials said the delegation inspected several important stretches and traffic management systems across Hyderabad.

Visit follows cabinet approval

The study tour comes shortly after the Karnataka cabinet approved a proposed network of 11 flyovers in Bengaluru at an estimated cost of ₹13,262 crore.

The planned flyovers are expected to cover key roads including Tumakuru Road, Mysuru Road, Hosur Road, Old Madras Road and Kanakapura Road.

Authorities said nearly 100 junctions in the city are proposed to be made signal-free.

Hyderabad model under focus

Hyderabad has emerged as a reference point for large-scale urban road projects, with more than 30 major flyovers, grade separators and elevated corridors.

Among its notable projects are the Biodiversity Junction Flyover, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, Punjagutta Flyover and Shaikpet Flyover.

Many of these were completed in the past five to six years.

Bengaluru traffic challenge

The visit reflects Bengaluru’s urgent search for solutions to worsening congestion and long commute times.

Officials hope lessons from Hyderabad’s execution model can help speed up future infrastructure planning and reduce bottlenecks in the IT capital.

Bigger debate remains

While flyovers may offer short-term relief, urban experts continue to stress the need for better public transport, last-mile connectivity and integrated planning.
