Bengaluru’s once-famous cool weather is facing growing concern after a resident shared a viral video claiming crayons had melted indoors due to the city’s intense summer heat.

Digital content creator Geetha Shree Nagaraaj posted the clip on social media, expressing surprise at experiencing such high temperatures in the city. She humorously asked whether the heat was strong enough to fry an omelette on her table.

Viral video sparks conversation

The video begins with a message saying Bengaluru is becoming unusually hot. It then shows a tray of crayons appearing soft and partially melted under the sun.

In the clip, she says she had never witnessed such conditions in Bengaluru before. The post quickly gained attention online, with many users sharing reactions ranging from humour to concern over changing weather patterns.

Several commenters urged residents to plant more trees and protect the city’s green cover. Others pointed out that despite the heat, Bengaluru remains more tolerable than several other Indian metros during summer.

Climate concerns grow

Experts have repeatedly warned that rapid urbanisation, loss of tree cover, and expanding concrete zones are contributing to warmer summers in Bengaluru.

Once known as India’s Garden City, Bengaluru has seen noticeable increases in temperature and humidity over the last decade. Residents have increasingly reported warmer nights, discomfort indoors, and delayed summer showers.

Rain may offer relief

The India Meteorological Department has forecast chances of rainfall in parts of Karnataka, which may bring temporary relief from the ongoing heat.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s Air Quality Index stood at 94, categorised as satisfactory, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
