The Halasuru Gate police in Bengaluru have apprehended a 32-year-old man from Rajasthan, Ankur Kumar, for allegedly cheating a local jeweller and making off with 1.277 kg of gold ornaments.

Details of the Incident:

  • Kumar had been living in Bengaluru for several years and frequently collected gold items from a jeweller in Nagarthpet for polishing.
  • Between May 30 and June 30, the jeweller entrusted Kumar with 1.277 kg of gold ornaments. However, when Kumar failed to return the items, the jeweller filed a complaint on August 19.

Investigation and Arrest:

  • Police investigations led them to Kumar’s hometown in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, where he was arrested on September 3.
  • During questioning, Kumar confessed to melting down the jewellery into bullion and selling it to various shops in Bengaluru before fleeing.

Recoveries Made:

  • On September 5, Kumar was presented in court and remanded to police custody for 14 days.
  • While in custody, investigators tracked down the sales of the bullion, recovering 384 grams of gold and Rs 10.99 lakh in cash, totaling a value of Rs 38 lakh.
  • It was revealed that part of the missing gold had been spent on Kumar’s girlfriend.

After further investigations, Kumar was brought back to court on September 18 and remanded to judicial custody.
