Bengaluru-based clean-technology company Neo San has announced the launch of “SafeDispose Bengaluru”, a city-wide initiative focused on on-site sanitary and biomedical waste processing across educational institutions, healthcare centres and government facilities.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Greater Bengaluru Authority and supported under an initiative led by the World Economic Forum.
Neo San was selected as a strategic partner under the Yes/Bengaluru Urban Innovation Challenge by UpLink, the World Economic Forum’s innovation platform supporting early-stage solutions.
Smart waste bins to be deployed across city
As part of the initiative, the company will deploy its patented Neo-X smart bins across schools, colleges, women’s hostels, healthcare centres and government institutions over the coming months.
According to the company, the systems are designed to process sanitary and biomedical waste directly at the point of generation through controlled thermal treatment technology.
The smart units also feature IoT-based monitoring systems to track waste processing cycles and generate compliance data for urban planning purposes.
The first phase of the project is expected to benefit over 5,000 women across Bengaluru.
Focus on safer waste handling
The initiative aims to address concerns linked to open waste burning, unsafe manual handling of contaminated waste and the absence of certified disposal systems in urban areas.
Neo San Founder Dhwaj Bagrecha said sanitary and biomedical waste often remains an ignored category despite posing serious risks to air quality, water bodies and sanitation workers.
The programme is being supported by organisations including United Way Bengaluru, Deloitte, Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Salesforce and SAP, along with the Government of Karnataka.
The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has reportedly reviewed and validated the technology for deployment.
Neo San currently operates more than 200 waste-processing machines across India through managed service partnerships with major organisations
