Property owners in Bengaluru can now transfer their electricity connection to a new owner fully online, thanks to a new digital integration between the Greater Bengaluru Authority and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company.

The upgraded system is designed to complete the process in under 10 minutes, removing the need for repeated office visits, paperwork and middlemen.

What the transfer means

A BESCOM name transfer updates the registered owner of an electricity meter in official records.

This is usually required when:

  • Buying a new property
  • Ownership changes from builder to buyer
  • Transfer within family
  • Inherited property changes

It is also important for subsidy benefits such as the Gruha Jyothi Scheme.

Key benefits of new system

Authorities said the e-Khata linked service offers:

  • Fully online and faceless process
  • Auto-fetching verified property data
  • No need for agents
  • Lower costs compared to earlier unofficial charges
  • Faster approvals and transparency

Documents required

Applicants should keep these ready:

  • Aadhaar linked mobile number
  • Sale deed or ownership proof
  • e-Khata certificate
  • Existing BESCOM bill
  • Latest property tax receipt

How to apply

After e-Khata mutation approval, owners receive an SMS with a request ID and BESCOM portal link.

Users then:

  1. Open the link
  2. Verify using OTP
  3. Check property details
  4. Complete Aadhaar e-KYC
  5. E-sign documents
  6. Pay fees online
  7. Download confirmation papers

Approximate cost

The reported charges are around ₹1,300, including processing and documentation fees.

Big relief for homeowners

The move is expected to benefit thousands of new homeowners in Bengaluru by making one of the most common property formalities quicker and easier.
