Bengaluru: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at her residence in Tulsainagar, Bengaluru, in a case that has shocked the city after the accused reportedly called the victim’s father and admitted to the crime before police reached the scene.
The victim, identified as Bhavani S, was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree and also worked at a beauty parlour, police said.
Father alerted after WhatsApp photo
According to the FIR, Bhavani’s father Srinivasa received a call from his wife on Saturday morning informing him that their daughter had shared a photograph of herself with a man on WhatsApp. The family became concerned when repeated attempts to contact Bhavani failed and her phone was found switched off.
Srinivasa then called Chandrashekhar, a man known to Bhavani. Police said the accused initially did not answer the call.
Accused allegedly admits to the crime
A short while later, Chandrashekhar allegedly called Srinivasa back and confessed to killing Bhavani. According to the complaint, the accused also reportedly said he would inform the police himself.
The chilling phone call became a crucial part of the complaint lodged with the police.
Police suspect personal dispute
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Bhavani was attacked with a sharp weapon inside her home. While the exact motive is yet to be established, police suspect a personal dispute may have led to the murder.
A case has been registered at Byadarahalli Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
Police are now examining the relationship between the victim and the accused, along with phone records and other evidence, to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crime.
Another woman murdered in Bengaluru the same day
In a separate incident reported on Saturday, a 22-year-old woman from Sikkim, identified as Ati Hangma Subba, was allegedly murdered in Bengaluru’s Bellandur police limits.
Police said the accused, Purba Lepcha, a native of Darjeeling working as a hotel waiter, allegedly killed her after suspecting her of being involved with another man. The couple had reportedly moved to Bengaluru a month ago and were living together in Doddakanahalli.
Investigators said the accused allegedly attacked Subba with a kitchen knife during an argument. He has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Concern over rising violent crimes
The two incidents, both involving young women and alleged crimes linked to personal relationships, have raised fresh concerns about violent crimes in Bengaluru. Police officials have urged the public to report threats, harassment or escalating disputes at the earliest so preventive action can be taken.
