A water tanker driver accused of murdering his 20-year-old wife in Bengaluru was arrested after he allegedly confessed to the crime during a phone call to a lawyer, a development that helped police swiftly trace the incident.
The accused, identified as Sharath, is alleged to have strangled his wife, ND Anusha, at their rented residence in Malleswaram VII Cross on June 14 following a domestic dispute.
Phone call to lawyer exposed alleged crime
According to police, soon after the incident, Sharath reportedly contacted an advocate over the phone and informed him that he had killed his wife. He allegedly locked the house from the outside and fled the area after making the call.
Alarmed by the confession, the advocate immediately informed the Seshadripuram police and shared the address of the couple’s residence, enabling officers to reach the location without delay.
Wife found dead inside locked house
When police arrived, they found the house locked from the outside. The key was reportedly kept near a window. After contacting house owner Ramesh Babu, officers entered the premises and discovered Anusha’s body lying on the kitchen floor.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the young woman had been strangled to death. Her body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
Couple frequently argued, say police
Investigators said the couple, natives of Sakleshpur in Hassan district, had been married for about a year and had moved into the rented one-bedroom house around six months ago.
In his complaint, house owner Ramesh Babu stated that the couple often quarrelled over minor issues. Sharath worked as a driver for a water tanker company owned by a local resident, Mahadev, who had reportedly helped them secure the accommodation.
Police suspect that an argument between the couple may have escalated into the fatal incident. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
