Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly brandishing a machete in public, recording videos with the weapon and uploading them on social media, creating fear among the public.

The accused has been identified as Tausif Khan alias Jadu, a resident of J J Nagar. Police said the action was taken as part of efforts to curb the glorification of weapons and criminal behaviour on social media platforms.

Videos with machete sparked public concern

According to the police, Tausif Khan allegedly carried a machete openly in public places, posed with the weapon and recorded multiple videos.

He is accused of uploading the videos as social media reels, which allegedly caused panic and concern among members of the public.

The CCB launched an investigation after the videos came to the notice of the police, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused.

Police uncover previous criminal cases

During the investigation, officers found that Khan was allegedly involved in earlier criminal cases, including attempt to murder and assault.

Police said he had been named as an accused in these cases and was already known to law enforcement agencies.

Investigators are examining whether the social media videos were intended to intimidate the public or project a criminal image.

Allegedly absconded after assault case

Police further alleged that Khan had absconded in connection with an assault case and continued to post reels on social media while remaining away from legal proceedings.

According to the investigation, he also failed to appear before the court despite being served with summons in the case.

Officials said these factors were taken into consideration during the investigation.

Probe continues

The Central Crime Branch is continuing its investigation to determine whether the accused committed any additional offences under relevant provisions of the law.

Police reiterated that strict action would be taken against individuals who display weapons in public or use social media to promote violence or create fear among citizens.

The arrest forms part of the Bengaluru police’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and prevent the misuse of social media for unlawful acts.
