Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man has been taken into custody by Kothanur police for allegedly assaulting a woman and slashing her face with a knife after she refused to give him money, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ananda, was reportedly an alcoholic who resorted to begging to fund his drinking habits. According to police, the incident occurred on Monday evening when Ananda approached 60-year-old Nagalakshmi, a Yelahanka resident, while she was waiting for a bus near Bili Shivale Circle.
When she declined his request for money and asked him to leave, Ananda initially walked away. However, moments later, he returned armed with a knife from his nearby residence, attacked her, and inflicted a deep cut on her cheek. As she collapsed in pain, he fled the scene.
Bystanders immediately came to Nagalakshmi’s aid and rushed her to the hospital, while police were notified. Acting swiftly, Kothanur police registered a case, tracked down Ananda, and arrested him.
“He has been remanded to judicial custody,” an officer stated.
