Bengaluru: A man has been booked by the Siddapura police for allegedly driving rashly and running over a stray dog in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar, triggering outrage among animal lovers after CCTV footage of the incident surfaced online.
The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of July 24 on 10th E Main Road in Jayanagar 1st Block. The injured dog, named Jockey, sustained severe injuries, including fractures to its hind legs, and is currently undergoing treatment.
CCTV footage sparks outrage
According to police, animal welfare activist Badri Prasad M.S. of the Jayanagar Canine Squad filed a complaint after reviewing CCTV footage, alleging that the driver ran over the dog while it was lying on the roadside.
Based on the complaint, Siddapura police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Police issue notice to vehicle owner
Investigators have identified the vehicle involved through its registration number and issued a notice to the owner, seeking details of the person who was driving at the time of the incident.
Police are examining the CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the case and whether the act was deliberate or a result of rash and negligent driving.
Probe underway
Animal welfare activists have demanded strict action against those responsible, stressing the need for greater accountability in cases involving cruelty towards animals.
Police said further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and evidence collected during the probe.
