Police have registered an FIR against a Bengaluru resident for allegedly obstructing and verbally abusing female officials engaged in National Census-2027 work in the city.

The incident reportedly took place between April 20 and April 25 in R T Nagar under Ward No. 43.

Officials denied information

According to the complaint, an enumerator identified as Veena visited an apartment on April 20 to collect census details.

The resident allegedly refused to provide the required information during the visit.

Later, on April 25, supervisor Rashmi R reportedly returned to the same location for follow-up verification.

Police said the resident again refused to cooperate and allegedly hindered the official process while using inappropriate language against the female officers.

FIR registered under BNS sections

Based on a complaint filed by Lokesh S P, police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The sections invoked relate to obstructing a public servant, use of criminal force to deter duty, and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Further investigation is underway.

Census work is national duty

Pommala Sunil Kumar said Census work is a matter of national importance and warned that obstructing officials on duty is punishable by law.

He urged citizens to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information, calling it a legal responsibility of every resident.

Public cooperation vital

Authorities often stress that census data helps shape planning for infrastructure, welfare schemes and civic services.
