A Bengaluru resident’s rainwater harvesting setup has taken the internet by storm after he collected an astonishing 25,000 litres in just one evening’s downpour.

Captain Santosh KC, a former Indian Army officer, shared a video of his efficient water collection system, emphasizing its potential for sustainable water management.

In his viral post, he wrote, “Bangalore rains. Power of sustainable planning. 30 minutes of rain, and we have 25,000 litres stored—15,000 litres for household use, 10,000 litres for farming.”

The clip featured a network of pipes and storage tanks, channeling the rainwater directly into reservoirs. Social media users praised his efforts, calling it an inspirational model.

When asked about water purity, Captain Santosh explained, “Our surfaces are clean, so no cleaning needed. Farm water requires no treatment, and we’re installing filters for household use.”

He further clarified, “Water is separated at the source—one pipeline leads to a 16,000-litre domestic tank, while another directs to a 12,000-litre farm reservoir.”

This initiative highlights the importance of rainwater harvesting, a method that reduces dependency on external water sources. Meanwhile, Bengaluru recorded 3.6 mm of rainfall on March 22, causing waterlogging across several areas.

Captain Santosh’s project proves that smart planning can turn rain into a sustainable resource.
