Bengaluru: A Bengaluru resident has sparked a lively debate on social media after sharing how he confronted an autorickshaw driver for driving on the wrong side of a one-way service road in Mahadevapura and made him apologise.
The incident, shared on the r/Bangalore subreddit under the title “Made the auto guy and a few others apologise”, has drawn widespread attention, with users praising the man’s stand on road discipline while others cautioned against such confrontations.
Stand against wrong-side driving
In his post, the man said he was travelling to work when he became frustrated by motorists driving against traffic on a congested one-way service road near More Supermarket in Mahadevapura.
He claimed the road clearly displayed a one-way sign, yet several motorists, including an autorickshaw driver, continued to drive in the wrong direction, worsening traffic congestion.
When the auto driver insisted the road was not one-way, the resident challenged him, offering to pay ₹1,000 if no signboard existed. However, if a one-way sign was present, he asked the driver to apologise.
After pointing out the traffic sign, the driver reportedly admitted his mistake and apologised.
Videos to be submitted to police
The resident also said he recorded videos of motorists riding on the wrong side of the road and on footpaths, capturing their faces and vehicle registration numbers.
He stated that he intends to submit the footage to the police as evidence of repeated traffic violations.

The Reddit post quickly attracted hundreds of responses.
Many users applauded the resident for standing up against traffic rule violations, saying more citizens should take initiative to promote road discipline.
Others, however, advised caution, warning that confrontations with motorists could escalate into heated arguments or even violence. Several users shared personal experiences of road rage incidents involving autorickshaw drivers and urged people to prioritise their safety while reporting violations through official channels.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concerns over wrong-side driving in Bengaluru, a persistent traffic offence that contributes to congestion and increases the risk of accidents across the city.
