A Bengaluru resident’s social media post comparing his travel time on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with walking has sparked fresh conversations about the city’s worsening traffic congestion.

Varun Rangarajan shared on X that he left Bellandur at 5:17 pm but remained stuck in traffic for hours while travelling through one of Bengaluru’s busiest IT corridors.

‘Walking would have taken the same time’

According to Rangarajan, it took him nearly one-and-a-half hours to travel from Kalyan Nagar to Manyata Tech Park, a distance of barely 2 to 3 kilometres.

In his post, he remarked that Google Maps showed he could have reached home in almost the same amount of time if he had simply walked instead of driving through the traffic.

He also claimed there was no visible traffic police presence during the long delay.

Traffic frustrations continue in Bengaluru

The post drew strong reactions from Bengaluru residents, many of whom shared similar experiences involving long commutes, traffic bottlenecks, and hours spent on congested roads.

Traffic congestion along the ORR stretch connecting major IT hubs such as Bellandur, Marathahalli, and Manyata Tech Park has remained a major concern for commuters for years.

Bengaluru among world’s most congested cities

According to the 2025 TomTom Traffic Index, Bengaluru is currently India’s most congested city and among the most traffic-congested cities globally.

The report stated that commuting 10 kilometres in the city takes more than 36 minutes on average, while peak-hour traffic significantly increases travel time.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over infrastructure pressure, rapid urban expansion, and the urgent need for improved public transport and traffic management solutions in Bengaluru.
