Bengaluru: A 38-year-old man narrowly escaped death after a brutal throat-slitting attack by an unidentified assailant in Bengaluru, with timely intervention by the emergency response system and police playing a crucial role in saving his life.
The incident took place in the early hours of Friday near a petrol bunk in Vinayaka Nagar under the jurisdiction of Kamakshipalya police station.
Attack during return from night shift
The victim, identified as Narayana, an employee of a granite company, was returning home after completing his night shift when he was suddenly intercepted by an unidentified individual.
According to preliminary reports, the attacker used a knife to slit Narayana’s throat before fleeing the scene. The victim collapsed on the road, bleeding heavily, in what police described as a highly violent assault.
Emergency response saves life
Local residents who noticed Narayana lying injured immediately alerted Namma 112, the state’s integrated emergency helpline.
The alert was received at the control room around 7.15 am and swiftly relayed to the Hoysala patrol unit as well as personnel from Kamakshipalya police station.
Officials said Assistant Sub-Inspector Kemparaju and constable Harish Kumar reached the spot within eight minutes of receiving the call, demonstrating a rapid response that proved critical in the situation.
Victim rushed to hospital
The injured man was immediately shifted to a nearby private nursing home in Sunkadakatte for emergency treatment. Doctors later confirmed that the quick response and prompt medical attention were instrumental in saving his life.
A senior police officer stated that Narayana is currently undergoing treatment and is in stable condition.
Probe underway to identify attacker
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused. Authorities are examining multiple angles, including the possibility of robbery or personal enmity.
“Once the victim recovers, we will be able to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack,” the officer said.
A special team has been formed to track down the assailant, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analysed. Police officials indicated that some leads have already been obtained.
Concerns over public safety
The incident has once again raised concerns over safety in urban areas, especially during early morning hours when fewer people are present on the streets.
However, the swift response of the emergency services has been widely noted as a positive example of coordinated action between citizens and law enforcement.
Conclusion
While the brutal attack underscores the risks faced by individuals in isolated situations, the timely intervention by Namma 112 and local police ensured that the victim survived. Authorities are now focused on tracing the accused and bringing those responsible to justice.
