Bengaluru: A Bengaluru man has left social media users amused after placing an unusually customised food order that transformed a burrito-style rice bowl into a bowl filled almost entirely with peri peri potatoes.

The customer, identified as Zahle Khan, shared screenshots and photos of the order on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, where the post quickly went viral and sparked humorous reactions from users online.

The unusual order was placed through the Zomato app from California Burrito, a popular fast-food chain known for burrito bowls, wraps and Mexican-inspired dishes.

Rice bowl without rice surprises internet

According to screenshots shared by Khan, he ordered a “Peri Peri Potato Rice Bowl (Mini)” but customised the dish extensively by removing nearly every standard ingredient from the bowl.

The order reportedly excluded rice, black beans, pinto beans, grilled onions, capsicum, corn salsa, sour cream, tomato and onion salsa, roasted tomatillo salsa and red chilli tomatillo salsa.

Despite removing most of the components, the order amount reportedly remained at Rs 262, including taxes and delivery-related charges.

When the order finally arrived, the bowl reportedly contained only peri peri potato chunks, making it resemble a snack box rather than a traditional rice bowl.

Photos of the customised order soon spread widely across social media platforms, with users reacting to both the unusual request and the restaurant’s willingness to fulfil it exactly as specified.

Social media users react with humour

Sharing the images online, Khan jokingly thanked the restaurant and referred to himself as someone known for placing unusual custom orders.

The post quickly gained traction, with many users describing the order as “peak Bengaluru” humour and creativity.

Several social media users pointed out that the restaurant already offers potato-based snack items at lower prices, leading to humorous comparisons and jokes in the comment section.

One user reportedly joked that the dish looked like “jeera aloo with no jeera,” while another suggested that Khan could have simply ordered the restaurant’s popcorn potato item instead.

Others were amused by the effort involved in customising the order to such an extent, while some users became curious whether similar modifications could be attempted with paneer or chicken-based menu items.

Food customisation culture grows online

The viral incident has once again highlighted the growing trend of extreme food customisation through online delivery applications.

With food delivery platforms allowing customers to add or remove ingredients according to personal preferences, unusual combinations and highly customised orders have increasingly become a source of entertainment on social media.

Restaurants and delivery platforms often accommodate such requests whenever technically possible, especially in cities like Bengaluru where online food ordering culture remains highly active.

Industry observers note that viral food posts involving unusual combinations, hidden menu tricks and exaggerated customisations frequently gain popularity online due to their humorous and relatable nature.

Bengaluru’s online food culture draws attention

Bengaluru has often become the centre of quirky internet trends involving technology, start-up culture and unconventional lifestyle habits, including unusual food experiments.

From highly specific coffee orders to customised meal bowls and experimental street food combinations, the city’s online audience frequently turns everyday incidents into viral content.

The latest potato-only rice bowl incident has now joined the growing list of Bengaluru-related viral moments that continue to entertain users across social media platforms.

While many users viewed the post purely as light-hearted humour, others praised the restaurant staff for carefully following the customer’s exact instructions despite the unusual nature of the request.
