On Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro launched an initiative aimed at helping non-Kannadigas learn basic Kannada phrases for easier communication while commuting. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) released a video featuring simple translations and essential Kannada words to promote the local language among the diverse urban population.
As celebrations for Karnataka Rajyotsava take place across the state, the official event is being held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. The video highlights phrases such as:
- Yaav Platform Ge Hogbeku? – Which platform should I go to?
- Dayavittu swalpa jaga bidi – Please give some space.
- Metro yaavaga baruthe? – When will the metro arrive?
- Washroom elli ide? – Where is the washroom?
- Naanu Kannada Kalithayindhini – I am learning Kannada.
The anchor emphasized that this is a small step to foster Kannada language awareness among commuters. The initiative comes amid growing attention on Kannada activism in the city.

In conjunction with the celebrations, the Karnataka state government declared a holiday for Karnataka Rajyotsava and mandated that all establishments hoist the Kannada flag. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar encouraged institutions, including IT firms and factories, to display the Kannada flag prominently on November 1.
