Bengaluru’s Purple Line metro services faced disruptions on Wednesday morning after a tree fell on the tracks near Swami Vivekananda Road station due to heavy rain on Tuesday. Services were halted between Baiyappanahalli and SV Road stations, with trains only operating between Indiranagar-Challaghatta and Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield during the early hours.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that from 6:15 AM, trains were running on limited sections while their maintenance teams worked to clear the obstruction. BMRCL informed passengers about the ongoing efforts to remove the fallen tree and arranged for BMTC to operate feeder services between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli.
By 8:05 AM, operations were restored after the obstruction was cleared. Namma Metro confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that train services on the entire Purple Line were back to normal.
Bengaluru has been experiencing heavy rainfall, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for potential flooding. Authorities, including the BBMP and Bengaluru police, are on high alert to manage any arising issues as further heavy showers are expected until October 17.
