Bengaluru: A new superfast train service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai is expected to begin operations by the end of June, offering faster rail connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra.
The announcement was made by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi after discussions with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding railway infrastructure projects and connectivity demands linked to Karnataka.
According to Joshi, the Railway Ministry has assured that the much-awaited train service is likely to be launched within the next few weeks.
Train expected to improve Karnataka-Maharashtra connectivity
The proposed superfast train is expected to significantly improve rail travel between Bengaluru and Mumbai, especially for passengers from central and north Karnataka.
Officials said the train will pass through several important districts and cities in Karnataka before entering Maharashtra.
The expected route includes:
- Tumakuru
- Davanagere
- Haveri
- Hubballi-Dharwad
- Belagavi
The new service is anticipated to provide direct and faster connectivity for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mumbai without relying heavily on flights or long-duration rail journeys.
Relief for regular commuters and travellers
The train is expected to benefit business travellers, students, tourists and daily commuters who frequently travel between the two major cities.
At present, many passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mumbai either opt for expensive flight tickets or lengthy train journeys with limited convenient options.
Railway officials believe the proposed superfast service could help reduce travel time and improve overall passenger convenience.
The train is also expected to strengthen connectivity between southern and northern Karnataka districts by linking them directly to Mumbai through a faster route.
Long-standing demand from Karnataka passengers
According to reports, the demand for a dedicated superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai has existed for several years, especially among passengers from districts located along the proposed route.
Residents and travellers from north Karnataka have repeatedly sought better rail connectivity to major commercial centres such as Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The proposed service is being seen as an important step towards improving transportation infrastructure and passenger movement across the region.
Railway Ministry yet to announce full schedule
While the service is expected to begin by late June, railway authorities have not yet officially released the complete timetable, train number or final list of halts.
Details regarding departure timings, ticket bookings, travel duration and frequency of operations are expected to be announced closer to the launch date.
Passengers are likely to receive updated information through official railway notifications in the coming weeks.
Karnataka rail infrastructure discussions continue
Pralhad Joshi said the discussions with the Railway Minister also covered multiple railway infrastructure projects related to Karnataka.
The Union Government has been focusing on expanding railway connectivity, improving travel speed and modernising transport facilities across several states.
The proposed Bengaluru-Mumbai superfast train is expected to become one of the major connectivity upgrades for Karnataka this year if launched as planned.
Travellers and railway users across Karnataka are now awaiting official confirmation of schedules and operational details from Indian Railways.
