A recent road trip from Bengaluru to Nanjangud showcased both the beauty and challenges of travelling through Karnataka’s evolving highway network.
Highway confusion costs precious time
The journey began with an unexpected delay after the traveller missed the new exit leading to the NICE Road corridor from Banashankari and was forced to continue through the Bengaluru University campus and Kengeri stretch on Mysuru Road.
The experience highlighted a common complaint among motorists—insufficient signage and navigation difficulties around key junctions despite major infrastructure upgrades.
Dangerous behaviour on expressways raises concerns
One of the most striking observations from the trip was the increasing number of vehicles stopping directly on the expressway to access roadside eateries.
Motorists were reportedly parking on the highway shoulder and merging back into fast-moving traffic without caution. In one alarming incident, a driver was seen attempting a U-turn on the expressway itself, raising serious road safety concerns.
Such incidents have become a growing concern among frequent highway users, who warn that unsafe driving practices could lead to major accidents.
Construction bottlenecks continue
The traveller also encountered a 30-minute delay near Columbia Asia Hospital due to ongoing flyover construction works. Motorists say congestion at the location has become routine and could worsen during peak hours.
A surprise discovery near KRS
The frustrations of the journey were quickly forgotten during the return trip, which included a visit to the KRS North Backwaters region. Along the way, the traveller unexpectedly discovered Kunti Betta, one of Karnataka’s most picturesque trekking and sunrise destinations.
Surrounded by scenic countryside, good roads and tranquil landscapes, the area offered a reminder of why Karnataka remains a favourite destination for driving enthusiasts.
The experience highlighted how some of the state’s most memorable travel discoveries often happen by accident, just beyond the familiar tourist routes.
