A newly released CIVIC Bangalore report assessing the performance of Bengaluru’s MPs and MLAs has raised serious concerns over rising political wealth, underperformance, and lack of transparency. Part of the Namma Neta Namma Review initiative, the Citizens’ Report Cards revealed staggering spikes in net worth for several legislators.
- Mahalakshmi Layout MLA K Gopalaiah’s assets surged by a jaw-dropping 1,399% compared to his last term.
- Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Muniratna followed with a 959.63% increase, despite facing eight criminal cases, including a 2024 chargesheet for rape and honeytrap.
- Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris reported a 318.62% rise, while Opposition Leader R Ashoka saw a 104% jump.
The report, compiled over six months by volunteers and student interns, analyzed attendance, legislative activity, fund usage, criminal records, and asset growth.
Among 32 MLAs, only 29% maintained over 90% attendance, with N. Shreenivasaiah at 100% and Priya Krishna the lowest at 53.6%. Shockingly, a third of non-ministerial MLAs didn’t ask a single Assembly question and none introduced Private Member Bills.
On the MLA fund front, only 4 MLAs fully utilized their ₹4 crore KLLADS funds, leaving ₹40.79 crore unspent, and ₹4.84 crore at risk of lapsing. S. Manjula (Mahadevapura) failed to allocate any funds.
Among MPs, PC Mohan topped attendance at 98.5%, while Tejasvi Surya, despite leading in debates (84 questions), lagged behind with 77.6% attendance. CN Manjunath led in MPLADS fund usage, spending ₹6.3 crore, while Mohan spent just ₹47 lakh out of ₹5 crore.
