Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 690 cases of drunken driving and 253 cases of overspeeding during a week-long special enforcement drive aimed at improving road safety and curbing dangerous driving practices across the city.
The special drive was conducted from July 13 to July 19, 2026, involving personnel from all 53 traffic police stations under the Bengaluru Traffic Police Commissionerate.
Officials said the enforcement campaign focused on identifying motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and those exceeding speed limits, both of which are among the leading causes of road accidents. Police teams conducted checks at strategic locations across Bengaluru throughout the week.
Drive targets dangerous driving
The traffic police said the crackdown forms part of their ongoing efforts to ensure safer roads and encourage motorists to comply with traffic regulations. Along with checking for drunken driving and overspeeding, officers also intensified surveillance at accident-prone stretches and busy junctions.
Authorities reiterated that strict action would continue against traffic rule violators and urged motorists to drive responsibly, avoid consuming alcohol before driving, and adhere to prescribed speed limits.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have been regularly conducting such enforcement drives to reduce road accidents and improve public safety. Officials also appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow road safety norms to protect themselves and other road users
