On Saturday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) launched a major operation to clear pedestrian encroachments across three city zones. This move came after Zonal Commissioners and Joint Commissioners carried out inspections and identified areas where footpath encroachments were causing significant inconvenience to pedestrians.
The operation targeted shops, stalls, and street vendors operating illegally on footpaths. A BBMP engineer stated, “We are conducting this operation to clear footpaths. We have warned shops and vendors against setting up their businesses on footpaths and have issued strict warnings.”
Encroachments were cleared in several locations, including 3rd Cross Road in Jayanagar 1st Block (South Zone), 16th Cross Road in Lakkasandra Ward, and 6th Cross Road in Nagarabhavi 2nd Phase (Rajarajeshwari Nagar Zone). In addition, encroachments and unauthorized overhead cables were removed along Old Airport Road Marathahalli Bridge in Mahadevapura Zone, with residents highlighting concerns about the cables not only affecting the city’s aesthetics but also posing a safety risk.
This effort aims to improve pedestrian infrastructure and ensure safer and more accessible footpaths for the city’s residents.
