Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh led a surprise late-night inspection of pubs and restaurants on Brigade Road on Friday to check compliance with police regulations, particularly the prescribed closing hours.
A team comprising police personnel and Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials inspected several establishments, including popular pubs and restaurants, as part of the enforcement drive.
The inspection focused on ensuring that establishments followed the operating hours and other rules stipulated by the police. The safety of women employees working at pubs was also among the key concerns during the operation.
Commissioner checks compliance with closing hours
Singh personally supervised the inspections to verify whether establishments were complying with the regulations. Speaking to reporters, he said the operation was intended to ensure that pubs adhered to the timings and other conditions laid down by the police.
A senior police officer said the authorities had clearly communicated the permitted operating hours to pubs and other establishments.
“We have prescribed timings for all pubs, and they have been instructed to close by the stipulated time. We have come to verify whether the rules are being followed,” the officer said.
Restaurants, pubs and bars in Bengaluru are required to close by 1 am, according to the prescribed deadline mentioned by the police.
Women’s safety among inspection priorities
The inspection also placed emphasis on the safety of women employees working at pubs and other establishments. Singh’s presence during the checks was intended to reinforce the need for strict compliance with the rules.
Late-night inspections form part of police efforts to monitor establishments operating in busy commercial and entertainment areas. Brigade Road, one of Bengaluru’s prominent nightlife destinations, attracts large numbers of visitors to its pubs, restaurants and other businesses.
The authorities checked establishments to ensure that operators were following the stipulated conditions. However, the information provided did not specify whether any pub was found violating the rules or whether any establishments were penalised during Friday’s inspection.
The police have reiterated that businesses must comply with the prescribed closing hours and other regulations. Establishments are expected to ensure that their operations remain within the permitted timings.
Focus on enforcement in nightlife areas
The surprise inspection highlights the police department’s focus on monitoring nightlife venues and ensuring compliance with operating regulations. By personally overseeing the operation, the Commissioner sought to verify whether establishments were following the instructions issued by the department.
The police are expected to continue enforcing the prescribed rules in commercial areas where pubs, bars and restaurants operate late into the night. Establishments must adhere to the closing deadline and pay attention to employee safety as part of their operational responsibilities.
