Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 752 cases during a week-long special enforcement drive against drunk driving and overspeeding across the city.

The intensified operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by reckless driving behaviour in Bengaluru.

Special enforcement drive across the city

According to traffic police officials, the crackdown focused on major roads, junctions and accident-prone stretches where violations such as drunken driving and excessive speeding are frequently reported.

The drive reportedly involved late-night checks, speed monitoring equipment and surprise inspections at multiple locations across Bengaluru.

Authorities stated that offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and traffic regulations.

Focus on reducing road accidents

Traffic officials said the enforcement initiative aims to create greater awareness about responsible driving and strengthen compliance with road safety norms.

Overspeeding and drunk driving continue to remain among the leading causes of serious road accidents in Bengaluru and other major Indian cities.

Police officials have repeatedly appealed to motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and to strictly follow speed limits.

Public safety remains priority

The enforcement action comes amid growing concerns over rising traffic density, dangerous driving habits and increasing accident risks in the city.

Road safety activists and citizens have largely welcomed stricter enforcement, saying regular checks are essential to improving driving discipline.

Many residents also called for continued awareness campaigns alongside enforcement to encourage long-term behavioural change among motorists.

Bengaluru roads under increased monitoring

Officials indicated that similar drives may continue in the coming weeks, particularly during weekends and late-night hours when violations tend to increase.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police have also urged citizens to cooperate with enforcement teams and prioritise safety for themselves and other road users.
