BENGALURU: On Saturday evening, Bengaluru police shot and injured a 27-year-old man, Venkata Raju, alias Tukadi, after he attacked a policeman in Ragihalli, Anekal. Raju, who is wanted in three separate attempt-to-murder cases, was being sought by Attibele police.
According to police sources, a team was dispatched to Ragihalli upon receiving a tip-off about Raju’s whereabouts. When the officers arrived to detain him, Raju attacked police constable Suresh, injuring him in the process. In response, Police Inspector BS Manjunath fired a warning shot into the air, but Raju continued his aggressive behavior.
To prevent further harm, Inspector Manjunath then shot Raju in the left knee, successfully subduing him. Raju was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Anekal Government Hospital for medical treatment.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in handling suspects with a history of violent offenses. The police response was deemed necessary to ensure the safety of officers and the public.
