Bengaluru Police on Friday issued a public advisory warning citizens against assembling near Town Hall following a social media call for a human chain allegedly organised by the “Cockroach Janata Party Karnataka”.

In an official statement, the Office of the Commissioner of Police clarified that no permission had been sought or granted for the proposed gathering scheduled for Sunday. Authorities also stated that approval had not been obtained from the concerned civic authorities for the use of the location.

Police cite High Court order

According to the police, the event invitation circulated online had urged people to gather near Town Hall for a “peaceful human chain”. However, officials reminded the public that protests, rallies, and dharnas are permitted only at Freedom Park as per a Karnataka High Court order issued on August 1, 2022.

Police warned that assembling at Town Hall in violation of the order could invite legal action. Citizens were also advised not to share or circulate related messages on platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and X.

Satirical movement gains online attention

The Cockroach Janata Party emerged recently as an online satire movement led by social media creator Abhijeet Dipke. The platform gained attention through memes, political satire, and commentary on youth-related issues such as unemployment, examination paper leaks, and education.

The movement reportedly gained traction after controversy surrounding remarks linked to Surya Kant, though the Chief Justice later clarified that his comments had been misquoted.

Humour-driven digital dissent

What started as a meme-based satire page has evolved into a wider online discussion around digital activism and youth frustration. The platform describes itself as a voice for people “the system forgot to count” and has attracted engagement from activists, politicians, and social media users.

Police said the advisory was issued in public interest to ensure awareness about existing legal restrictions on public gatherings.
