Bengaluru has secured the top position in the third edition of the ‘Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI)’ index, released by the Avtar Group, a leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) solutions. This recognition highlights the city’s status as the most inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable place for working women, excelling in various aspects such as employment, skilling, infrastructure, and caregiving support.

Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Founder-President of Avtar Group, highlighted the critical role cities play in shaping opportunities for women, stressing that to achieve a developed India by 2047, it is essential for cities to create environments where women thrive alongside men. She emphasized that gender-inclusive cities are foundational for women’s success.

The TCWI index, driven by data, evaluates cities based on Social Inclusion Score (SIS), Industrial Inclusion Score (IIS), and Citizen Experience Score (CES), considering factors like safety, employment, empowerment, and infrastructure. Bengaluru excelled in skilling, employment opportunities for women, and infrastructure development.

Other top cities in the rankings include Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Gurugram, and Coimbatore. The southern region, in particular, has emerged as the most gender-inclusive in India. Kerala, with the highest City Inclusion Score, leads as the most gender-inclusive state, followed by Telangana and Maharashtra.

The study surveyed 1672 women across 60 cities, using data from reputable sources such as CMIE and the World Bank.
