A Bengaluru-based entrepreneur has drawn widespread attention online after sharing a video of a surprise inspection at one of his restaurant outlets, offering a glimpse into behind-the-scenes operations.
Hands-on approach to hygiene
Abhijit Gupta, co-founder of popular brands including The Pizza Bakery, Paris Panini, and Smash Guys, was seen inspecting the Indiranagar outlet of Smash Guys during its weekly “deep cleaning day.”
In the video, Gupta walked through the kitchen and service areas, closely reviewing cleanliness standards and pointing out areas that needed improvement.
‘Where is the depth?’
During the inspection, he questioned the effectiveness of the cleaning process, remarking, “Deep cleaning means, where is the depth? There’s no depth.” He checked various sections including water bottles, dishwashing areas, AC filters, and surfaces used by customers.
While acknowledging some improvements, he emphasised that certain hygiene standards must always be maintained.
Non-negotiable standards
Gupta stressed that cleanliness in customer-facing areas is essential, regardless of staffing challenges. “No matter how short-staffed you are, certain things are non-negotiable,” he noted, referring to maintaining spotless doors, mirrors, and service spaces.
He explained that weekly deep-cleaning routines help address areas often overlooked during daily operations.
Social media praises accountability
The video resonated with viewers, many of whom praised Gupta’s involvement and attention to detail. Users highlighted his management style as an example of leadership through action rather than authority.
Several comments described the approach as customer-focused and a benchmark for maintaining quality in the food industry.
A lesson in consistency
The incident highlights how consistent checks and accountability play a crucial role in maintaining hygiene standards, especially in high-footfall establishments.
As the video continues to circulate, it has sparked broader conversations about cleanliness, management practices, and customer trust in the food business.
