A case has been registered after a Class 1 student at a private school in Bengaluru was allegedly made to stand under the scorching sun for nearly two hours as punishment for arriving late to class.

The incident reportedly took place at a private school in Yelahanka’s Attur Layout area. According to police, the child’s parents alleged that the boy was punished for reaching class just two minutes late.

Parents allege harsh punishment

The parents claimed that the school authorities asked the young student to stand outside in the hot sun for around two hours as disciplinary action. The incident reportedly caused distress to the child and raised serious concerns about the school’s disciplinary practices.

When the parents approached the school to question the punishment, they alleged that the principal behaved rudely and responded arrogantly to their concerns. The parents also accused the school staff of misbehaviour and demanded an explanation from the administration.

Police register case under Juvenile Justice Act

The issue gained wider attention after details of the incident surfaced on the social media platform X, where a video showed the principal being questioned about the alleged punishment.

Responding to the incident, the Bengaluru City Police stated that they had taken serious note of the matter and registered a case under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

Police emphasised that subjecting children to physical or mental suffering is a punishable offence under the law. Authorities also noted that the Act strictly prohibits revealing the identity of any child involved in such investigations.

Officials urged the public not to circulate videos or information that could reveal the identity of the child.

They further advised citizens to report such incidents directly to the police or child protection authorities to ensure that appropriate action is taken and the rights and safety of children are protected.
