Relief from the intense summer heat may soon arrive in Bengaluru, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning from Tuesday onwards.
According to India Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places across Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts from Tuesday to Thursday, mainly during afternoon or evening hours.
Heatwave likely to ease
The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35°C, while minimum temperatures may stay near 23°C.
Officials said partly cloudy conditions are also expected, which may bring some early relief before the rain activity intensifies.
In recent weeks, Bengaluru has experienced temperatures consistently above normal levels.
Why city is getting hotter
Experts have linked the unusual heat to shrinking green cover, rapid urbanisation and increasing concretisation across the city.
These factors often reduce natural cooling and contribute to the urban heat island effect, making temperatures feel higher than surrounding regions.
Recent temperature readings
At the Bengaluru City observatory, the maximum temperature was recently recorded at 35.6°C, around 1.4°C above normal, while the minimum stood at 24.6°C.
The HAL airport observatory reported a maximum of 35.9°C and minimum of 22.6°C.
Meanwhile, the agrometeorology unit at GKVK recorded a maximum of 34.6°C and minimum of 23°C.
What residents should expect
Residents can expect warm afternoons followed by chances of evening thunderstorms over the next few days.
Authorities generally advise caution during lightning activity and gusty winds, especially for commuters and those outdoors.
For many Bengalureans, the forecast comes as welcome news after days of uncomfortable summer conditions
