Mumbai: Two Bengaluru-based sisters have been booked for alleged abetment of suicide after a 24-year-old man died by suicide in Mumbai, with his family alleging that he was subjected to mental harassment and threats over a relationship.
The deceased, identified as Sanath Raghavan, lived with his parents and younger brother at Jade Garden in Kherwadi, Bandra East.
Youth allegedly threatened over relationship
Sanath had completed his LL.B from Swami Vivekanand College in Chembur and had worked as a law clerk with a judge of the Bombay High Court. Since March 2026, he had reportedly been working from home.
According to his mother’s complaint, she noticed that Sanath had appeared disturbed for several days. Two of his friends allegedly told her that he had received a call concerning a woman he had been in a relationship with while studying in Bengaluru.
The complaint alleges that after the relationship soured, the woman and her sister began threatening Sanath with a false criminal case.
Mother alleges mental harassment
Sanath’s mother reportedly confronted him about the matter, following which he admitted that he had been threatened.
While she was speaking to one of his friends over the phone, Sanath allegedly locked himself inside his bedroom and jumped from the 13th floor of the building.
He was rushed to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Sion, where doctors declared him dead.
Kherwadi police investigate
The Kherwadi police have registered a case of alleged abetment of suicide against the two women based on the complaint and are investigating the allegations.
In her complaint, Sanath’s mother alleged that the threats of being implicated in a criminal case had caused him severe mental harassment and contributed to his death.
The allegations against the two women are subject to investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as police examine the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged threats.
