Bengaluru: In a chilling twist to what seemed like an accidental death, police have arrested a young man and his friend for the cold-blooded murder of his father, a well-known ice cream producer from Tumakuru district.

Nagesh, 55, who ran Apollo Ice Creams in Kunigal, was discovered lifeless inside his factory on May 11. His son, N Surya, 20, initially claimed that his father had suffered an electric shock. Wires were found near the body, and a burn on his arm supported the claim. A case of unnatural death was filed, and the body was sent for autopsy.

However, when police revisited the premises on May 13 to review CCTV footage, the truth came to light. The video captured Surya and his friend Dhanush entering the factory around 10 p.m. A confrontation between Nagesh and Surya turned violent. Surya wrapped a towel around his father’s neck, while Dhanush restrained his legs. After the murder, they staged the scene to look like an electrical accident.

The postmortem confirmed death by strangulation. Nagesh’s wife had separated from him 15 years ago, living on their farmland. He stayed with Surya and daughter Savita in town.

According to Tumakuru SP Ashok KV, Surya confessed to earlier failed murder attempts—one involving a staged car crash during a local festival, and another where he hired hitmen, offering Rs 3 lakh. When the killers asked for more money, he postponed the plan.

The motive remains under investigation.
