Bengaluru: The Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) has awarded civil construction contracts worth a combined ₹511 crore for two packages of Corridor 4 of the Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project, also known as the Kanaka Line.
The contracts have been awarded to a joint venture of RNS Infrastructure and Gayatri Projects, and RNS Infrastructure Limited, respectively. The awards mark another step towards developing the suburban rail corridor connecting Heelalige in the south to Rajankunte in the north of Bengaluru.
The two contracts are valued at ₹342 crore and ₹169 crore, taking their combined value to ₹511 crore.
RNS-Gayatri joint venture gets ₹342 crore package
The first package, valued at ₹342 crore, has been awarded to the joint venture between RNS Infrastructure Limited and Gayatri Projects Limited. The Letter of Acceptance was issued on October 29, 2026, with a completion period of 24 months.
The package covers approximately 6.2 km of at-grade railway formation and 3.6 km of elevated viaduct between Benniganahalli and Jakkur.
The scope of work includes railway formation in embankments and cuttings, bridges, road underbridges, retaining structures, drainage facilities, boundary walls and fencing.
The contractor will also undertake design validation and structural stability checks, wherever required, for certain works completed by the previous contractor. These checks are intended to ensure that existing structures can be safely integrated with the remaining construction.
RNS Infrastructure secures ₹169 crore contract
The second package, worth ₹169 crore, has been awarded to RNS Infrastructure Limited.
The 13-km package involves construction of an at-grade railway section between Heelalige and Bellandur. It forms another important component of Corridor 4, which is planned to improve suburban rail connectivity across Bengaluru.
Together, the two packages cover important sections of the Kanaka Line and include the construction of railway infrastructure required for the operation of suburban trains.
Corridor 4 to connect Heelalige and Rajankunte
Corridor 4, named the Kanaka Line, is one of the four corridors planned under the Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project. It will extend approximately 46.25 km between Heelalige and Rajankunte.
The suburban rail project is designed to provide an additional public transport option for Bengaluru, connecting residential areas, employment centres and major transport hubs.
The overall Bengaluru Suburban Transport Project covers 148.17 km across four corridors and has an approved project cost of ₹15,767 crore. It is being implemented by K-RIDE with funding from the Union and Karnataka governments, along with debt financing. Gazette Notification PDF
Two of four civil packages awarded
With the latest awards, K-RIDE has awarded two of the four civil construction packages planned for Corridor 4. The remaining two packages are expected to be taken up through subsequent tendering.
The contract awards are part of the broader effort to advance construction of the Kanaka Line. The corridor also requires station infrastructure, railway formations, elevated sections and associated facilities to be completed before suburban train services can begin.
The project has faced delays, including challenges relating to land acquisition and the transfer of government land. In a written reply in Parliament in July 2026, the Ministry of Railways stated that 43 acres of the 57 acres required for Corridor 4 had been acquired at that time. Gazette Notification PDF
The latest contract awards are expected to support further progress on the corridor, although the completion of the entire line will depend on the timely execution of the remaining civil works, station construction and other project requirements.
