Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have confirmed that investigators have collected substantial forensic evidence to file a strong chargesheet against a city-based surgeon accused of murdering his wife using a controlled anaesthetic drug. Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh spoke to reporters on Thursday about the ongoing investigation.
“The forensic evidence has given clarity on how the crime was committed and what would have been the probable motive. The police are building the chargesheet as required,” Singh said.
Arrest and investigation
The Marathahalli police arrested 31-year-old surgeon Mahendra Reddy G S from Manipal on October 14. He was booked for the murder of his wife, 29-year-old dermatologist Kruthika M Reddy, who died on April 24.
Police investigations revealed that Mahendra administered propofol, a controlled anaesthetic substance, in multiple doses to his wife between April 21 and 24. Following her death, the case remained under scrutiny until forensic reports confirmed the presence of propofol in several of her organs.
Confession and evidence
According to police reports, Mahendra confessed to procuring the anaesthetic substance and injecting it intravenously into his wife, leading to her death. The confession, along with detailed forensic evidence, forms the core of the chargesheet being prepared by the police.
“This evidence will help us establish the sequence of events, the manner of administration of the drug, and the motive behind the crime,” Commissioner Singh added.
Legal proceedings
The chargesheet is being compiled with the intention of presenting a strong case in court. Legal experts say that cases involving controlled substances like propofol require meticulous documentation of forensic findings, timelines, and confessions to ensure successful prosecution.
Authorities are also expected to examine hospital records, purchase logs, and communication trails to corroborate the sequence of events leading to Kruthika’s death.
Conclusion
The Bengaluru Police’s swift action and meticulous forensic analysis are expected to provide clarity and justice in this high-profile case. With the chargesheet nearing completion, the legal process will soon determine the outcome for Mahendra Reddy, ensuring accountability under the law.
