BENGALURU: A 27-year-old techie and her 25-year-old colleague tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident on Seshadri Road near KR Circle on Sunday night. The victims were identified as Bayyana Gari Shilpa, 27, from Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, and L Prashant, 25, a resident of Subbaiahnapalya near Banaswadi. Both worked at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Around 9 PM, a BBMP garbage truck, driven rashly by Rajappa, collided with Prashant’s Harley-Davidson X440. The truck, coming from Chalukya Circle, turned left and rear-ended the bike, dragging both victims for some distance before stopping. Despite immediate assistance from police and passersby, the victims were declared dead upon arrival at ST Martha’s Hospital.
Rajappa fled the scene but was later apprehended by Ulsoorgate police. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic experts examining the accident site to determine the cause. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Kumar Jain noted that the damage on both vehicles and road marks are crucial for the investigation.
Shilpa’s parents had just finalized her marriage plans that morning. Prashant, who had planned to meet Shilpa, was reportedly heading back to her place when the incident occurred. Prashant’s father, Lokeshappa, expressed deep anguish, recounting the tragic irony of his son’s death occurring near the hospital where he was born.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath stated that compensation decisions will be made based on the police report, and any potential compensation would be the responsibility of the vehicle’s contractors.
