A 43-year-old tech professional from Bengaluru died after being struck by lightning near Yelwal in Mysuru district on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Hosoklu Roshan Balakrishna, originally from Kodagu district. Police said Roshan was working in the IT sector in Bengaluru and lived with his family in an apartment at Jalahalli.
Apart from his professional career in the technology industry, Roshan was also involved in managing his family’s coffee plantation.
Lightning struck while plucking mangoes
According to police, Roshan had travelled with his family and stopped near Yelwal around 5 pm to visit their property.
While he was reportedly plucking mangoes near the land, lightning struck him suddenly, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Family members immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital before shifting him to Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for advanced treatment.
However, doctors declared that he had been brought dead.
Family in shock after sudden tragedy
The sudden incident has left the family and relatives in deep shock. Roshan is survived by his wife and a son studying in Class 9.
The tragedy has also highlighted the dangers of lightning strikes during changing weather conditions and thunderstorms, especially in open agricultural areas.
Authorities have advised people to remain indoors and avoid standing near trees or open fields during lightning activity.
