Bengaluru: A Bengaluru professional has gone viral after announcing that he resigned from his corporate job without another offer in hand, saying years of heavy workload, poor salary growth and mounting stress had pushed him to prioritise his mental well-being.

Pramod Paul shared his journey in a video published by Humans of Bombay, where he candidly spoke about the pressures of corporate life and why he chose to walk away despite having no immediate backup plan.

‘I chose peace over corporate exploitation’

In the viral video, Paul said he had been handling responsibilities well beyond his designation while receiving little financial recognition.

“You see the glow on my face? The day has come. I am resigning. No job offers in hand, no backup plans, nothing,” he said.

Paul claimed he was performing the duties of a senior analyst while being designated as an analyst and receiving what he described as an “intern’s salary”. He said a six per cent annual hike translated to only about ₹2,600 extra per month, leaving him questioning the value of the long working hours.

Mental health became a priority

Paul said prolonged workplace stress led him to seek professional help.

He revealed that he consulted a psychiatrist and later attended stress management therapy sessions, joking that the cost of a single therapy session exceeded the value of his annual salary increment.

Growing up in Kolar near Bengaluru, Paul said he carried significant financial responsibilities after graduation, helping repay family debts while working in the financial sector.

New beginning through content creation

Paul explained that he eventually turned to content creation as a creative outlet, posting humorous videos about corporate life and everyday experiences, many featuring his mother.

As his online audience grew to nearly 100,000 followers, content creation became both an emotional support system and an additional source of income.

Despite still having around ₹3 lakh in education-related debt, Paul said he decided to resign after nearly four years with the company, following increasing workloads and limited career growth after a corporate acquisition.

His last working day is expected to be August 15. While admitting he has no clear roadmap for the future, Paul said he would rather embrace uncertainty than continue in what he described as an unhealthy work environment.

The video has sparked widespread discussion online about workplace burnout, employee well-being and the importance of mental health in today’s corporate culture.
