BENGALURU: Amid the constant chatter about Bengaluru’s civic issues and traffic chaos, a heartwarming story of honesty, quick thinking, and technology has brought smiles to many. A techie travelling through Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) recently shared how he was reunited with his lost bag within minutes — thanks to the airport staff’s prompt action and the smart use of UPI transaction data.
The incident, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Jaskaran Singh, has since gone viral for showcasing Bengaluru’s efficient use of digital tools and the professionalism of its airport personnel.
“Forgot my backpack on a KIA shuttle bus to Bangalore airport and realised just before check-in,” Singh wrote. “Staff traced the bus number using my UPI transaction and got my bag back. Love how this tech city solves everything. Huge thanks to Mr Ravi for the help.”
The post was accompanied by a picture of Singh with the recovered bag, earning widespread appreciation from social media users for the staff’s alertness and the seamless use of technology in resolving what could have been a stressful situation.
Tech meets teamwork at the airport
According to Singh, he had boarded a BMTC KIA shuttle to the airport and paid the fare using UPI. Upon realising that his bag was missing just before check-in, he immediately approached the airport’s lost and found helpdesk.
The airport staff, led by Mr Ravi, cross-verified Singh’s UPI payment details, used them to identify the exact shuttle and driver, and quickly contacted the bus service. Within minutes, the bag was located and safely returned to Singh — a move that underscored Bengaluru’s reputation as India’s “tech capital” in action.
His story comes as a refreshing change from the usual reports about potholes, flooding, and traffic snarls, offering a glimpse into how technology and teamwork can make everyday life smoother for citizens.
Social media hails ‘tech city spirit’
Singh’s post quickly gained traction, attracting hundreds of likes and shares within hours. Netizens were quick to applaud both the airport staff and the city’s tech-forward mindset.
“That’s such a relief! Kudos to the staff and the power of tech — only in Bangalore!” wrote one user. Another added, “Nice to hear good things about our city for once — great to see real-life use of UPI for public service.”
A third user shared a similar experience, writing, “I left my earbuds at the security check at Bangalore airport. Found them safe at the lost and found on arrival. The staff was very responsive and helpful. Respect.”
Meanwhile, another post captured the sentiment of many Bengalureans: “In the world of cribbers about Bengaluru every single day about traffic and other things, it’s so nice to see someone praising the city for its goodness.”
Restoring public faith
The viral post comes at a time when the city has faced heavy criticism over civic infrastructure issues, particularly after Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw recently called out the government for neglecting Bengaluru’s roads.
But stories like Jaskaran Singh’s show another side of the city — one defined by civic responsibility, innovation, and people who go above and beyond to help.
By using something as simple as a digital payment trail to resolve a lost-item case, airport staff showcased not just efficiency, but also how technology can serve the public in practical, meaningful ways.
As one user aptly commented, “This is why Bengaluru is India’s Silicon Valley — tech, trust, and teamwork all in one.”
