In a city where broken pavements, missing footpaths, and encroachments often force pedestrians onto busy roads, a 14-year-old student from Bengaluru has developed a mobile application aimed at improving pedestrian safety and civic reporting.

The young innovator created the app to help citizens report footpath-related problems directly to civic authorities in a more organised and accessible manner.

App focuses on pedestrian safety

The application reportedly allows users to identify and report issues such as damaged pavements, missing tiles, blocked walkways, illegal parking on footpaths, and stretches lacking proper pedestrian infrastructure.

The initiative was inspired by the everyday struggles faced by residents, particularly children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals who often find it difficult to walk safely through parts of Bengaluru.

The student reportedly felt that technology could help bridge the communication gap between citizens and civic agencies responsible for maintaining urban infrastructure.

Bengaluru’s footpath issues remain a concern

Pedestrian safety has remained a major concern in Bengaluru for years, with residents frequently complaining about encroachments, uneven pavements, dug-up walkways, and lack of proper maintenance.

Urban planners and road safety activists have repeatedly highlighted how poor pedestrian infrastructure affects accessibility and increases accident risks.

The student’s effort has received appreciation online, with many users praising the initiative as an example of young citizens contributing practical solutions to civic problems.

Technology-driven civic participation growing

Experts say such citizen-led digital initiatives reflect a growing trend of technology being used to improve civic participation and urban governance.

Many Bengaluru residents also expressed hope that civic agencies would actively respond to complaints generated through such platforms and prioritise pedestrian-friendly infrastructure across the city.
